Shiatsu is a form of Japanese bodywork that is based on the meridian system, a network of energetic points and channels that is also used in Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture. It is a deeply relaxing body therapy that uses rhythmic pressure and full-body stretching. Like Western massage, it benefits pain and musculoskeletal dysfunction. But it is also excellent for people trying to address more complex issues such as insomnia, digestion/elimination, internal organ issues, immune function and energy level. Shiatsu can also assist with a healthy emotional life and a re-connection to our authentic self. For when we are connected to our most authentic form of being, our healing potential is maximized. Shiatsu is done in loose fitting, comfortable clothing, on a futon mat on the floor. Pressure can be as deep as is necessary for the work to be effective and feel satisfying. There is a unique flow to the massage as each limb is stretched and addressed to re-establish a free flow of energy through all parts of the body. Many people report feeling a sense of wholeness, and a return to an easy, natural state of being.
